Do you eat eggs? You drink milk, right?

Two of my FAVORITE questions that I get on a frequent basis.

I’ve made a personal choice to not eat eggs, more for ethical than health reasons. If the majority of your diet is plant-based and you eat an egg now and again, that’s not necessarily going to stop your heart cold.

That said, for me, I don’t “need” eggs. I can get everything I need nutritionally, and otherwise from a diet that is eggless. Also, I don’t miss eggs. My diet, as it is, does not lack from it’s egglessness. There are plenty of other ways to make cookies, cake, even scrambles without the use of eggs.

The same goes for milk (see my why I don’t drink cow’s milk for more on why milk from a cow doesn’t pass these lips!). Drinking the chalky stuff as a kid, especially on it’s own, made me queasy, and I always thought the taste was downright abominable! What really pushed me to eliminate it forever was reading T.C. Campbell’s work, which was pivotal in my transformation.

Another person who has been pivotal in bringing to light some of the reasons for me reconsidering the use of dairy foods is Colleen Patrick-Goudreau. I appreciate her approach, which to me, is a voice of sound reason, rather than shrill criticism of the industries, which is one of the routes people CAN go. She has a podcast, Vegetarian Food For Thought, that is absolutely fanatastic, and I recommend it for anyone interested in learning more about the ethical/environmental aspects of vegetarianism/veganism.

Here’s a recent video by her where she addresses milk and egg production:
