Kitty Food?

My children are all vegan, and the younger two have been since birth. My oldest has been vegan since 12 months.
Eating the way we do is completely normal to them, just as children in other families are accustomed to eating a particular way.
A few cans of tuna fish sit in our pantry. I suppose they are leftover from our meat eating days. My husband on occasion eats tuna fish so I’ve kept them around for him, although I don’t recall the last time he’s actually eaten the stuff, and my children have never seen him eat it.
The other day, my four year old (the oldest), was digging through the pantry and found a can of tuna. We had a stray cat hang around our house awhile back and we had fed him a few times, until he decided to look elsewhere for food.
My son picked up the can of tuna and said, “Look mom, kitty food! We need to go feed our kitty” (he’s convinced that the kitty will come back some time soon).
I chuckled, proud of my son.
“Yes,” I thought, “That is kitty food.”
[Cats, by the way, should eat a primarily protein-based diet, with no more than 5% calories coming from carbohydrate, so fish really is a great food for them (not sure about canned, mercury-laced tuna, but, hey, much better than for us). Humans on the other hand, thrive on a complex carbohydrate-rich diet, with protein and fat playing important, but marginal roles.]
Thanks for the great ideas on ways to reduce cabin fever during the long and cold winter months. We’re currently experiencing a bout of snow, so we don’t go anywhere if we don’t have to, watch more movies than is healthy, and it’s weather like this that puts me into a baking kick.
I made Dreena’s chocolate chip cookies yesterday for the first time and my husband took a “double-take” after eating them. “Are you sure these are vegan?” he asked. That’s one of the best compliments I could get from my husband.
