What Jennifer Lawrence Can Teach Us

I don’t read US Weekly (okay, maybe I do glance at the headlines when I’m at the checkout line at Wal-mart) but, somehow, I know a little something about celebrity gossip.

Like Brad & Angelina are finally going to tie the knot. Kanye loves Kim.
And in veg/health celebrity news,
Carrie Underwood went vegan after being vegetarian for awhile (oh right, I know that is so last year).
Ellen De Generes is vegan (apparently she has been, for like, several years).
Miley Cyrus has now gone gluten-free (wupdeedoo).
Alicia Silverstone did some weird mouth to mouth feeding as part of weaning her baby & the video went viral (Joseph, of all people, told me about that one).
Truth be told, I don’t actually care much about celebs or their lives. But one celebrity that piques my interest is Jennifer Lawrence.

The other night, it was Bargain Tuesday & tickets were only 5 bucks (woot-woot!), so Joseph & I scraped together a few dollars & went to the “real” (ie. not the dollar theater) movies to watch Hunger Games.

Have you seen it? Or read the books?
(I read the first one, and am 30 pages away from finishing the second.)
I’m a sucker for a good, depressing story (some of my faves include An American Tragedy&Tess of the D’urbervilles), and this one does not disappoint!

Hunger Games features a dark, dystopian world where there’s little hope, little food, & one heroine:
Katniss Everdeen (aka Jennifer Lawrence).
While I’m not going to get into the details of the book/movie here, let’s just say she’s got some girl power & her bow & arrow skills are impressive.
What really impresses me though, is that she’s real. Real in a, I’m-not-just-another-starving-diva-showing-off-my-cleavage sort of way, which is a rarity in Hollywood these days.
I loved watching her on screen, not just because she’s a talented actor and drop-dead gorgeous in an earthy, organic way, but also because I felt like I could relate to her.
She’s got curves! She’s athletic (not “big-boned,” ekk, I hate this term, it’s so disingenuous). She’s strong!
Do you think she’s too fat?
We’ve got major problems if we think this gorgeous, fit gal is fat, don’t ya think?
As for me, who cares about what kind of cake will be served at Brangelina’s wedding (I do hope it’s vegan & gluten free), or who’s the latest schmuck to fall for what’s her name, that Kardashian girl?, I want to see real women, like Jennifer, have the courage to speak out for being real, healthy, & beautiful. Don’t you?

Have seen the movie or read the book?
What do you think of Jennifer Lawrence?
